本专著为国家社会科学基金项目（项目批准号：03BYY001）的研究成果。作者围绕中国学生在英语学习过程中所面临的跨语言文化因素和跨文化语篇模式展开了一系列涉及英语学习各个层面的实验性研究，包括汉英词汇文化内涵的认知、汉英基本句子结构与思维模式差异、中国学生英语作文的段落及篇章结构特点、汉英话语模式特征、文化与言语行为、以及中国英语学生语篇模式等。专著较为系统地揭示了在中国特定环境下的外语学习与文化认知之间的交互关系，对中国学生英语学习过程的一些特征进行了理论探索，其研究成果对英语学习与教学具有理论与实践的指导意义。
