Identification and Application of Landscape Plants is one of the fundamental courses for majors in gardening, landscape engineering, and landscape architecture. It aims to cultivate students' abilities to scientifically and rationally apply garden plants. This textbook integrates common garden trees and flowers, taking into account the characteristics of gardening and horticulture majors. Guided by the principles of simplicity, practicality, accessibility, and scientific rationality, it focuses on the growth forms and landscape uses of garden plants. In accordance with the cognitive patterns of students in gardening and horticulture majors, the textbook organizes content with the growth forms of garden plants as the main thread, and categorizes plants based on their genetic relationships and gardening uses. The common plants in urban gardens are classified into ten major categories: ornamental ferns, trees, shrubs, vines, ornamental bamboos, ornamental palms, biennial and annual flowers, perennial flowers, and bulbous flowers. The book introduces nearly 500 species of common garden plants, with descriptions of varying degrees of detail based on their importance and frequency of use in landscaping. Besides highlighting morphological characteristics, distribution and habit, propagation and cultivation, and landscape application, it also organically incorporates ideological and political education elements to enhance students' national pride and cultivate their patriotism. During the compilation process, plants that are easily confused with each other are intentionally placed nearby, facilitating readers to learn, compare, and distinguish them.
